W2KDC server question

Hi,
Kind of a 3 part question. If this is not cool, I am sorry, didn't know: if
so, won't happen again
1-Desktop xp pro cable modem hard wired to wireless router for home wireless
network with my laptop xp pro also w/linksys wireless adapter, network works
great
I am an MCSA W2K, and MCDST, but have really been out of touch with W2k DC ,
server, network, active directory.
My options: I have w2k server w/sp4, no limit, retail cd.I need a small W2k
DC/AD network to get my chops back.
I have an ext HD I could take out of the case(also have removable
rack&carriage on my desktop.
can I setup server on desktop w/removable drive(it's a storage drive so I
imagine I can just leave the stored files on their and install w2k server?)
Then use laptop with new user and join the domain (wired, workds fine that
way for practice and the linksys router has 4 ports)
OK, Can I do this and retain functionality of the wireless network when I
insert my normal xp pro HD? Then log on laptop as original user to wireless
network to use the web.
I do not need internet with the w2k DC, not that important right now. This
all sounds like it would confuse the hell out of windows. It has me.
Antway, I hope you see my concerns and goals
Sorry for this looooong post, just want to get back in the game. I have
spent the last few years troubleshooting Windows, mostly xp for home users.
Some wireless stuff, but absolutely NO W2K server DC/AD networks.
whew!!!
Thanks so much
Frank L
I am open to any and all suggestions also. I even thought about leaving my
ext HD alone and partitioning my C drive, it's big enough and installing w2k
server there, but.....................
