Re: Paging File limited to 4096 MB...sometimes?

Hi,

See if this will help,

How to overcome the 4,095 MB paging file size limit in Windows

Not sure if I understand you. But, I right-click on My Computer, go to
Properties | Advanced | Performance Options | Advanced | Virtual Memory |
Custom Size, and, try and put a number larger than 4095 in the Initial and
Maximum Size blocks. On the servers that WON'T do greater than 4096 (or,
4095 on some) I then get the error message popup: "Enter a maximum page
file
size that is greater than or equal to the initial page file size, and,
less
than 4096 MB.". On the servers that will take a larger Paging File size,
it...just...takes it...

Thanks.

I've built about 20 Windows Server 2003 Enterprise w/SP1 servers, and,
some
using CD1 of the R2 version (basically, the same thing). I've used
regular
computers as well as servers for the hardware platform.

I've noticed that, on some machines, you are limited to a 4096 MB
Paging
File (on some, only 4095), but, on others, you can go as large as you
want
(I've created a 24 GB Paging File, but, it was in two non-contiguous
segments). Typically, we have 4-8 GB RAM, so, I would want to create a
6-16
GB Paging File.

Question is, WHAT is causing the limitation? I have a Dell computer
and a
Dell server that both use the same SATA drive, but, the server CAN go
over
4
GB, and the computer can't. I also have some servers, with SCSI drives
that
can't, and, others, with the same SCSI drives that can.

Is there something in the Registry that I can hack to make this work?
Is
it
hardware, drive electronics, BIOS?

Thanks!
