I'm fairly new to Windows Server administration. I've just installed a
2003
server. From time to time specific upgrades require us to reboot the
server. It appears that after a reboot (login prompt appears on the
server
screen) users cannot login immediately. Is this delay normal? Also,
users
that were already logged in before the reboot can no longer access
shares on
the server until they log out and back in. Is this also normal
behavior?
Is there a way to change this? What I'm like to know is what I need to
do
as the administrator before, during and after the server is rebooted.
Any
and all assistance would be deeply appreciated.
Thank You!
What most companies do, is schedule the patches/fixes to be installed during
an off-hours maintenance period! Yes that means you have to come in at wee
hours of the night, apply the patch/hotfix, reboot, hope all goes well, and
go home. If not, well welcome to the wonderful world of IT administration,
it will only get worse as your company and responsibilities grow.
