Re: Windows 2003 Time service

I still get this error, but the server's time is now correct (and I did not
manually change it) so it must have successfully acquired the time from the
external server. My system event log still indicates that it is using the
domain hierarchy to get time??

Is there a way to get all the computers on my network to resynch their clock
to the authoratative time server? If not, how long should it take
(currently 6 minutes off)?

I have gone through the list of registry settings several times, and can
not find what I am missing. My event log still states that I am set to
sync with the next step on the domain hierarchy and there are no higher
domain servers. So I am still missing something. :-(

I had the same problem. Take a look at
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/816042 for the solution.

This is the warning I get in the System Event log:
"Event Type: Warning
Event Source: W32Time
Event Category: None
Event ID: 12
Date: 4/24/2006
Time: 8:20:44 AM
User: N/A
Computer: IH-AD01
Description:
Time Provider NtpClient: This machine is configured to use the domain
hierarchy to determine its time source, but it is the PDC emulator for
the
domain at the root of the forest, so there is no machine above it in the
domain hierarchy to use as a time source. It is recommended that you
either
configure a reliable time service in the root domain, or manually
configure
the PDC to synchronize with an external time source. Otherwise, this
machine will function as the authoritative time source in the domain
hierarchy. If an external time source is not configured or used for
this
computer, you may choose to disable the NtpClient.

How do I fix this?
Yes, I believe this server does hold the FSMO role, we are running a
single
domain with two DCs this DC is the DHCP, and holds the RID, PDC and
Infrastructure master roles.

Hi,

Can you restart Windows Time service on this domain controller? Wait
till
service is restarted and then check Event Logs. In System Log you
should
see W32Time event. What does it say?

Does this domain controller also hold PDC emulator FSMO role?

I have one of my domain controllers set to get time from
tock.usno.navy.mil and time.microsoft.com but the server is always ~
6
minutes fast. The rest of my network has the same time as this domian
controller (which is what I want), but I can not figure out why it is
not
getting the correct time.

Any ideas as to what I have set incorrect?
