Please help with choosing the correct OS (2000 vs 2003)

Hi all

I am struggling between the choice of these two operating systems as I need
a windows OS that will also serve webpages and perform some fairly simple
backend win32 application processes (triggered by php scripts). This server
will be available on the net.

I have been looking at ebay for a few months now with the intention of
buying a transferable licence (COA + key) of either operating system. These
often come with some hardware too.

I won't (at least I dont think so) will need .NET services but I will be
using Apache 2 webserver not IIS6 as I use certain PHP modules in my
application code that do not run on IIS. I need the windows platform
because of my Win32 applications but the web side will be purly Apache, PHP
and MySQL.

Windows 2000 server seems to be priced very similar to 2003 but before I
make a move I'm asking here if there any other considerations I should make
before purchase.

This webserver will be co-located and will need to run a DNS service too.

I know next to nothing about Active Directory which I belive is a strong
point in 2003.

Is there going to be much advantage going to 2003 or should I try and get a
bargain 2000 server instead?

Thanks for any help
