You're probably right but I would feel more comfortable knowing

we used mentioning that he couldn't install SP1 on a newer model

Well - of course you'll make a backup first. I can't imagine a
service pack requiring something that the original OS
didn't.....make sure you have enough free disk space on your
system partition, and you don't have scary stuff in your event
logs.

Just in case someone else has the same concern I had... The SP1
install went without problems.
