Hi,
If you want to set up two domain controllers on your network the process is
like this. After you have your first one installed and working -- install
second one and join it to domain and promote it to domain controller where
you choose "additional domain controller for existing domain". In the end
you get two domain controllers. Make sure you make your second domain
controller also a Global Catalog and additional DNS server for your domain.
Make sure that your domain joined clients have both servers listed as DNS
server. This way if one goes down they can use second server as domain
controller and DNS server.
I am not sure how I would go about ensuring that data is synchronized
between the servers. What I would usually recommend my customers (which are
mostly enterprise customers) in this case is to set up cluster with external
storage and connect the cluster to it. This way if one server goes down data
is still available through the other node. Of course you have to make sure
that external storage is not single point of failure.
There are some software solutions that should be able to sync data between
servers -- but these solutions would depend on how much data you have and
other demands. The problem with most of these solutions is that they only
sync data with the second server after it is written to the first one...
