Sorry.
When using the query index form in computer management on the server it is very fast. I can find one word in a file searching 200,000 docs in about 1 second.

But when I use the windows "search" tool (windows explorer >> search )on the server it is MUCH slower. When I use the "search" tool on a fast XP client in the same domain it is even slower -- like it is not using the indexing service at all. I wish i could somehow give users access to the form in computer management >> services and applications >> indexing service >> query the catalog as it is hundreds if not thousands of times faster than the windows explorer search option on a client (or on the server)

Does that clarify?

TIA

Russ
