I have the following setup:
Motherboard Asus P4C800-E-DELUXE with the following disk controller setup
1) Onboard Intel SATA controller in regular IDE mode
- *Western Digital 250GB SATA (boot / system disk. Windows Server is on
the first partition "C:")
- Western Digital 250GB SATA
2) Onboard Promise FastTrak 378 RAID controller
- Western Digital 250GB SATA
- Western Digital 250GB SATA
3) Promise FastTrak TX4200
- Seagate 400GB SATA
- Seagate 400GB SATA
- Seagate 400GB SATA
The problem is that when I have disks connected to BOTH of the Promise RAID
controllers, I'm unable to boot Windows Server 2003. The boot fails with the
following error message:
"Couldn't open drive multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)
NTLDR: Couldn't open drive multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)"
If I disconnect all the drives from one of the Promise controllers (doen't
matter which of the two), then I can boot with no problems. Yes, I have
checked the boot drive order in my BIOS setup. It IS setup to boot from the
correct disk / controller (marked with *). I also had a setup with a
HighPoint RocketRAID 1640 RAID controller instead of the Promise FastTrak
4200 and then I didn't have this problem either.
What could be the issue with my setup?
