First, there's always a reason. Second, an entire school district
being offline will brun through far more than the $245 service fee in
probably less time than the call would take.

Assuming you've done *nothing* to the system, then it was something
you didn't know happened. Look at the logs and ensure the SMTP
attempts are going to the proper location. DNS resolution errors may
cause this, as can a routing error, though most often it really is one
system set to use another as a hop that forwards back to the first as
the next hop.
