To your second point about discoverability, you may not be aware of the $profile variable. It makes the process of creating a new (or customizing an old) profile extremely easy: notepad $profile.

FYI, this doesn't work on the Vista Dec CTP. I get the following error "The system cannot find the path specified."

OK it works if I *manually* create the MSH dir. -1 for usability/discoverability.
