I'm not sure exactly how DataShare does it. You can read more on it at
http://www.javvin.com/disksharefaq.html.
In general user mapping takes a given user name and says it is the same as
another user name on the other system. For example, if your user name on
the unix system was dmarino with group rights to folder datadump you could
equate that to NT user marinod with Add & Read access to folder datadump
on the shared drive within the mappings file.
Permission changes on the NT side could then be scripted by assigning the
user to the security group that controls access to the folder.
I'm not sure if I explained this very well.
