You can use psshutdown remotely to force a console logoff but you need to
prepare users. You can send a message with pshutdown and timeout and an
option to let users abort. If they abort n times then remove the option and
force a logoff.
The screensaver can do the same thing with a little work and will force the
logoff.
I deny connections to prevent users from sneaking in at the last second.
They login and can't get resources so don't start doing anything on the file
servers.
