Hi dave313,
Well, MS is telling us they cannot guarantee any future Service Packs or OSs will have the "fix" for single lable domains,
Right, I see what you mean.
software we the the SID filtering disabled, so they "old" user SIDs will resolve and reside for a short while (through the migration) with the "new" user SID.
Ah ok, that's completely different then.
Luckily again, we are not doing quotas.
Out of interest, can you comment on
1. Are you using OUs and group policy?
2. I assume you're NOT using folder redirection?
3. Do you assign your logon scripts through GP or the "old" way?
4. Do you create a share for every user's home folder or just have one massive "users" share?
Good safety tip on the XCALCS limits. I will look more into that but I think since we are breaking it down site by site over a number of weeks, I hope this won't be a big issue.
Yup, site by site is fine. You'll need to weigh up CACLS, XCACLS nad XCACLS.VBS along with other methods such as WMI and C++.
As you're so big, the latter methods are totally realistic, just phone the programming team and tell them you need it by 5pm that day.
In theory, XCACLS.VBS has some "bug fixes" related to inheritance, but my guess is that you'll find it runs a bit slow on a big network and the EXE might be better, or (if you're like me) you don't trust any of these things and prefer to write your own.
