Cross-post when necessary, but never multi-post. Cross-posting is when you
include two or more groups in the "Newsgroups:" section. In this scenario
the message and all responses are seen in all groups that the message was
cross-posted to. In other words any replies will automatically propagate to
the other newsgroup posts.

Multi-posting is when you post the same message to two or more groups
individually. In this scenario the message is seen in the groups it is
posted to, but the responses are only seen attached to the message (unless
you cross-post the reply) in which the response was made. So those that
frequent these groups then need to deal with or re-read the posts. It may
seem like a small thing to keep track of. But some of us actively traverse
50 or more groups. The poster also then must search out all of the posts to
see if there was a response.

| i just had to do a reformat and reinstall of windows home xp. and as it
| should be i had the little balloon popup telling me to activate windows,
but
| after i had installed most of what i had to and went to windows update and
i
| got the criticals and high pri. updates 3 at a time. on the last shot i
got 4
| of them. up until then i still got the popup for activation in 30 days.
after
| the last group and reboot i started to go online and the popup came up
with
| the windows is already activated. so thinking it may of been one of the
last
| updates i went through them and deleted the one for messenger. then
rebooted.
| upon reboot i got the 30 days popup again. so i hit it. it still says
windows
| is already activated. this is one of the reasons among multiple crashes i
had
| from installing stuff that messed up things. the reason i had to
reinstall.
| cuz at 7 days it kept poping up asking to activate and when i hit it it
said
| it was already. so at 3 days left and another crash i went ahead and
| reinstalled. now its doin the same thing. whats up with this? i cant get
ms
| to tell me anything cuz this os cd is from my old dell that fried and i
used
| the os disk on this pooter for the reformat/reinstall. the tech guy that
did
| it activated it for me. but i got this 7 day thing a few days ago. and it
| counted down to 3 before i decided after talkin to people on other forums
to
| reinstall again. does, or can anyone tell me what i need to do here?
thanks
