Re: upgrade to 2008 sbs from sbs 2003

Further to the issue, SBS 2008 premium comes with a second server 2008 license
and a SQL License and 5 premium SBS licenses.  Afte that, you purchase additional
premium licenses only for the users that actually use SQL.  If they don't
use SQL applications, they only need standard licenses, regardless of what
else those users might use the second server for.

If you are going to surrender one of the SBS 2003s you can transfer the licenses
to the survivor, assuming they are both premium or standard.  Not sure if
premium licenses could be "downgraded" to standard if that is all you need.

My main question is if I buy the 2008 sbs premium software. Can I use
the licenses that I have for sbs 2003. In other words can I use the
present liceses when I upgrade.

Did you buy SBS 03 licenses with Software Assurance or did you just
buy retail/oem licenses without Software Assurance?

My understanding is that SBS 03 licenses mean nothing for 08, unless
you bought Software Assurance.- Hide quoted text -

Thanks for all of your comments. I plan to use the second server for
Quickbooks enterprise and use a sql data base for them. I have a total
0f 23 users 10 of which will use Quickbooks . So do I understand that
I need 18 SBS licenses in addition to the 5 that come with SBS 2008.
Then I need SQL licenses for the 5 users above the 5 it comes with?
SQL and server licenses?

Thanks
Bob
