Re: Automatic updates will not notify to install after downloaded.

The issue occurs on the server itself.

I am not running WSUS.

I simply have My Computer > Properties > System Properties > Automatic
Updates set to "Notify me but don't automatically download or install them".

Hi Howard:

It is not clear from your description if the issue occurs on the SBS itself,
or on one workstation, or on all workstations. Please let us know more
details.

On the affected computer, are there any events shown in the logs that might
give clarity to this problem?

What version of WSUS is running on the SBS? By now it should be WSUS 3 with
WSUS SP2. If not, try upgrading your instance of WSUS. Just download and
install WSUS 3, then SP2, but don't change any of the settings or your
Server Management will display a blue shield indicating that the Server
Management and WSUS are not communicating. Some advise not running the post
install configuration wizard.

You should download and install the report generator, and you will be
prompted to do so during the install.

Also, look for logs regarding windows updates on the affected computers, and
review them.

Currently my SBS 2003 sp2 server is set for automatic updates to notify me
when updates are available. I get the notification that updates are
available
for download.

When I click on the icon to start the download it appears that all is
working except that the icon goes away after a while and I never get the
icon
notifying me that the downloads are ready to be installed. I have no idea
as
to whether or not the files are even downloaded.

I always have to go to IE and perform a manual windows update.

The automatic update notification after the download used to work but
somewhere within the last few months stopped working correctly.

Does anyone have any idea as to how I can get things back to normal
notifications?

Thank you,

Howard
