Besides Ace's notations, I would sure hope they've not adobted a really long
public domain name to go with that email address.
Of course if DNS, AD, and Netbios names are identical, then there will be
other issues you'll be dealing with too.

I will be installing a SBS 2k3 in about a week to replace a WIN 2K
server with exchange.
The current server domain is 'AREALLYLONGNAME' (Name of the client
company)
Unknowingly, I have set up the new SBS with the domain name
'AREALLYLONGNAME.LOCAL'. It is just about ready to drop into place.
What kind of hell can I expect? Or is there nothing to worry about?
Thanks,
Doug Sanders
With the DNS name, not really, but a pain with the long name, which I
believe max FQDN name length is 255 (can't remember). As far as the
NetBIOS domain name, yes, there will be an issue. If the name is
longer than 15 characters, the system will truncate it to 15
characters for the NetBIOS max name length, so there's a possibility
that the name will look funny to your users when they see it in the
domain drop-down box when they logon.
Usually we like to keep them short and simple (KISS method). It makes
it easier to type, write down, remember, and doesn't scroll off the
screen. :-)
