Re: SBS2008 and RWW - cannot connect from remote clients

The ipconfig from a workstation would be helpful.

Your DNS Server IP is shown as 127.0.0.1. Do you know how that's getting in there? It should be the IP address of the SBS NIC. If the workstations are somehow getting the 127 IP, then they'll have issues. DHCP should be on the SBS (not another device), and the workstations should be getting the SBS NIC IP for DNS from DHCP.

Without the workstation ipconfg we have no visibility from here, though.

Run the SBS BPA? Post the "ipconfig/all" from the server, and a workstation.

What errors in the workstation event logs?

I am now unable to connect PCs on the local LAN to the SBS 2008. I can run the http://connect program, but it fails at the "connect to network" point. I have followed all the "fix my network" stages. Strangely, the PC seems "half-joined" afterwards, in that it appears in the SBS console list. Any ideas?

OK, I've managed to connect. Ping did resolve, then I ran the "Fix my network" wizard and opened the recommended ports on the router.

Many thanks for your help.

Charlie

If you ping https://remote.<domainname.co.uk> with or without the /remote, does it resolve to the correct IP?

Have you run the "fix my network" wizard, and the SBS BPA?

From a lan connected computer, can you connect to RWW or OWA?

If everything seems OK above, have we got the correct ports open at the router, and not blocked by ISP?

Les,

The error message is this:

"This web page is not available.
The web page at null might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address.
Below is the original error message
Error 102 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED): Unknown error."

The URL I've entered is the one indicated in the Websites section of the SBS console, namely:
https://remote.<domainname.co.uk>/Remote

I haven't had any luck with OWA.

Thanks,

Charlie

Hi Charlie,

Can you please provide the error message or condition you see when you attempt an RWW connection?
What URL do you use for RWW; and have you tried /owa?

I've been setting up SBS2008, and attempting to connect remote clients via
RWW - but cannot. I have an external .co.uk domain name which I have
transferred to eNomCentral, because they were among the registrars
recommended by the SBS internet connection wizard. The wizard appeared to
complete successfully. I've inspected the host records at eNomCentral, and
there is a "remote" A address pointing correctly to the external fixed IP
address of the SBS2008 Server. The Server is a Dell PowerEdge T100, Intel
quad core, 8GB RAM, 2x500GB HDD configured RAID 1, Gigabit NIC. Remote client PCs vary, from Windows 7 RC Ultimate to Vista Home Premium.

Any ideas received gratefully :-)
