No I don't want you to install WSS3 but look for a similar kerberos authentication check box in what you have.
This is info for SBS 2008 and late last night I was trying to find the workaround for 2003. Let me dig it out.

I'm getting the now "infamous" You cannot browse the Companyweb from the SBS2003 server itself with the error 401. I applied the KB 961143 and it did Not fix the issue. I would just uninstall the "offending" KB963027 update, but do not find it in Add/Remove.
The http://msmvps.com/blogs/bradley/archive/2009/04/16/post-09-014-company-web-wants-a-password-install-961143.aspx did not help. (Windows SBS 2003 ver. 5.2.3790 SP2) No changes to Sharepoint since clean install.
Any other ideas would be much appreciated.

Follow these steps:
Click Start, click Administrative Tools, Click SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration, and then click Continue on the User Access Control Dialogue.
In the Authentication Providers page, Click Application Management, and then click the "Authentication providers" under the "Application Security" tab
Check the Web Application, make sure the port is 987; otherwise change web application to the URL which has the port 987
Click the "Default" zone, you will go to the Edit Authentication page;
Check the Negotiate(Kerberos) option under the Integrated Windows authentication tab;
Click OK in the Dialog which gives a warning that "You have chosed to use Kerberos with Integrated Windows authentication. Manual configuration steps by a domain administrator will be required if the application pool's security account is not the Network Service" and then click Save;
