Re: Issue with Windows XP Pro Client and RWW/RDP

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

I checked the firewall and remote desktop is enabled (grey out) because it's
controlled by the domain and GPO. I also have a GPUpdate as part of a login
script for each workstation "just in case". This computer also does NOT
have any AV on it yet. I just finished a fresh XP pro build and SP updates
only. I also cannot reach this machine internally or externally via RWW. I
have tried RWW and RDP (4125 and 3189) with no success. I also know this
computer is ON because I can ping it. That is why I am stumped.

It's probably so obvious it's staring me in the face but I can't see it.

Hi Richard -

I would start with the obvious: first, is remote desktop enabled on this
machine? /connectcomputer usually enables remote desktop, but I have seen
instances where it doesn't get turned on. Next, is this machine getting
GPOs from the SBS for the Windows Firewall (gpresult)? Finally - any
third party security software that may be blocking connections? I have
seen some instances where the personal firewall on Trend's Worry-Free
Business Security client will get enabled on a machine even though the
firewall setting is set to disabled on in the Trend Console on the server

SBS 2003 Std

I am trying to connect to a Windows XP Pro computer on an SBS 2003
domain. It was joined to the network via \connectcomputer with a single
wired nic connection. When I try an RWW session or RDP session neither
one of them works. I get an error message back about not being able to
connect to the computer. I know this computer is on-line because in the
office I can get on it and browse the network so it's not a connection
issue. It's something with this XP Pro computer (which was just rebuilt
from scratch with XP SP3). I have done this numerous times with other
computers on other networks and THIS computer is giving me issues
(read... other computers on the network work fine).

Any ideas on what to look at?

Thanks!

-Richard K
