Re: 2 users not receiving mail

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Thanks for posting back! Please see my comments inline...
Also please note that this is one user at bpumc.com that cannot receive mail
from anyone outside the organization. Sending works and internally works
but again it is one user out of 9. All others are having no issue with
their mail.

Ok here is what I just received from an e-mail that I sent to one user
this
morning...

Reporting-MTA: dns;"theirdomain.com"
Received-From-MTA: dns;"mydomain.com"
Arrival-Date: Mon, 20 Jul 2009 09:43:18 -0400

Final-Recipient: rfc822;user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Action: delayed
Status: 4.4.7
Will-Retry-Until: Wed, 22 Jul 2009 09:43:19 -0400
X-Display-Name: "user"

Does this help??

Thanks!

An SMTP Status: 4.4.7 message indicates in your case, that it's being
delayed trying to send for a certain amount of time, based on how the
sending server's SMTP retry is set to. Most of them are set to 48 hours (2
days) with a Delay Notification of 12 hours. Hence the sender received this
12 hours after he/she sent it.

It is pretty much saying that for some reason the sending MTA is having
problems sending to your domain.

What we actually need is the NDR, or the message that they will get when the
email has exhausted the retry time of 48 hours and fails to get sent.

Ok, I will post back when I get one.

What I can say, is one reason this can happen is if their MTA cannot resolve
your MX record, however there can be other reasons, such as if the sending
domain is looking for an SPF record for your domain.

Reading through the posts in this thread, and based on the subject line, I
am assuming your users are not receiving mail from a domain name called
bpumc.com. Is this correct?

No, just the opposite the user at bpumc.com cannot get mail.

Are there any Event logs errors in the App and System log?

No

Have you run the ExBPA or the SBSBPA? Please run them and post back with any
errors in it.

No but I will now.

Also, you said you rebuilt the operating system because you didn't want to
take the time to figure out what went wrong. Assuming you rebuilt it from
the ground up, did you rebuild it with the same server name and domain name
as the prior installation? If so, did you create the user accounts as they
were originally, with the same email addresses, Exchange aliases, etc? How
about the workstations, did you disjoing them and rejoin them to the new
domain?

I rebuilt ther server stopping at the "Continue Microsoft Small Business
Server Setup" instead I restored their most recent backup. There was no
need to recreate any accounts, email addresses etc. There also was no need
to disjoin and rejoin because it was essentially the same server they had
before with 2 new hard drives.

Maybe those users that aren't receiving mail may have had a different email
address prior to the reinstall? Of course we'll need the NDR once they get
it. See if you can get a hold of that, please.

Again, email addresses are all the same because it was a restore of a
backup.

Still looking for answers but I will post back what the Best Practices show.
