If you are getting more than the stated NATIVE capacity of the tapes then
your compression must be working. Besides, you can't turn it off on DAT
drive AFAIK anyway - it's hardware.
Don't expect to ever come close to the maximum capacity stated by the tape
manufacturer - they assume your data is ideal for compression which it
almost never is. You're lucky to get 40% more, but never 100%.
As Lanwench says the time is now to move to USB drives or other removables.

My apologies - this is probably not the ideal place to post this but I
can't find a better place!
I am running Windows Small Business Server 2003. I am using NTBackup
and recently, my backup has started to fail because the tapes are
getting full.
I am using the /hc:on switch. My tape drive is a Dell Powervault 100T
which is capable of hardware compression and it is enabled.
Despite this, I don't seem to be getting any compression. Can anyone
shed any light on this please or point me in the right direction for
troubleshooting?
I'd be happy to provide further information or clarify / answer any
questions if it will help you to help me!!!
Thanks in advance.
Rafael.
