Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

OK about 4am there was an Application event (#465)

Corruption was detected during soft recovery in logfile C:\Program
Files\Exchsrvr\mdbdata\E00.log. The failing checksum record is located at
position END. Data not matching the log-file fill pattern first appeared in
sector 5452 (0x0000154C). This logfile has been damaged and is unusable.

Then a few minutes later I get...

Information Store (4972) First Storage Group: Corruption was detected during
soft recovery in logfile C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mdbdata\E00.log. The
failing checksum record is located at position END. Data not matching the
log-file fill pattern first appeared in sector 5452 (0x0000154C). This
logfile has been damaged and is unusable.

I did notice in an earlier posting (from yesterday) a 1221 error message
about only 14mb free space in the Exchange database so I think I am bucking
even the SP2 limit. I followed the steps I found to increase the priv1 size
to a larger number through the regedit key but when I look for the 1216
event to tell me new database size I don't see anything in the event log so
I am not sure I have actually set a larger size.

Is there an antivirus program on this box that does not have the Exchange folders excluded? If so, check the quarantined folder for the ..e00 log file.

EventID 4972? Can you double check that? I can't find info on that with the Source name = Information Store.

As for EventID 465, yes, there is definitely a problem, especially if an antivirus program yanked E00 log. You will need to repair and reset the log file generation. See if the following article helps.

You receive a "The database files in this storage are inconsistent" error message when you try to mount a mailbox store or a public store in Exchange 2000 (or 2003) Server (EventID 465, Source=ESE98)
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=906148

You cannot mount a database because there is a corrupted transaction log in Exchange 2000 (or 2003)
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=301438

How to use Eseutil to test transaction log files for damage in Exchange 2000 Server and in Exchange Server 2003
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=248122

If the steps are too difficult to follow, I would suggest to place a call with Microsoft PSS. They will walk you through it or do it for you. There's not much else you can do. It also appears that it may have happened prior to yesterday's backup, since you said the restore didn't work.

As for the EventID 1221, the store must start for it to properly report, so that is a moot point until you get this back up and running. The database limit for Standard (what SBS uses) is 16GB, unless changed in the registry, as Krystian provided the reg entries to change it. However, as said, if the store is not running, it won't work anyway.
