Re: Trend Worry Free Advanced 6

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hello again Greg, again, thanks for the response.

I had to wait until this morning to switch 'Enable Behaviour Monitoring' back on - we have a couple of EPOS systems on the network and I didn't want them to stop working.

Anyway, I've just enabled it and everything worked with TMBMSRV.exe running at 5% on a workstation.! Unfortunate, I only had 10 minutes or so to play because the boss-man came in early to do some work so I had to get everything back into a known good state.

I'll try to persuade everyone to stay logged in tonight when they go home so I can test it again with a few workstations connected.

Having said that, as mentioned in an earlier post, I'm expecting a call from Trend pre-sales this morning. If we're not up and running after that I'll give up on it - As much as I'd like to see this through, I'm spending far too many hours on this and I have my day to day work stacking up. As my boss points out, if Trend doesn't care about us why should we care about them!

I agree that their pre-sales behavior is lacking in your case. You have expressed an interest and they should have stepped up to help you want to buy their product. In this economy, I'd think they'd jump through hoops to get you away from a competitor or two.

There is no spam "training" involved with the server-based side of spam filtering. You create a whitelist of addresses and/or domains that you always want trusted, then you choose the level at which you want to filter. I use High.

The Trend "Common Firewall Driver" is used for more than just the firewall. I believe it is also used by Intrusion Prevention and by the Outbreak Defense feature. The Outbreak Defense feature can be in effect without the firewall enabled.

Did you check CPU usage of the TMBMSRV.exe process? I'd like to know what it is so I can pass the information to my Trend contact. A month or so ago, I had lunch with her and two Trend folks from the homeland, and they want information if there are problems.

Many thanks for the response.

>>Have you set up the necessary exclusions for Exchange and SQL<<

I'm brand new to Trend and with no support I'm not sure! However, it is an 'out of the box' install with the 'Enable Behaviour Monitoring' turned off. I understand from a couple of Trend users that this 'feature' needs to be switched off for the system to run efficiently. Trend sales tell me that there's is switched off also!

Having said that everything now seems to work with the possible exception of spam training.

Just on the odd chance someone else needs to know, I'm getting closer to the FTP problem on a virtual XP machine hosted on the SBS box (see point 4, below).

Even though the firewall was not enabled in Trend's control panel, the personal firewall service still runs on the SBS box. By disabling the service the Virtual XP's FTP works - I'm still trying to figure out why!

Trend UK pre-sales have promised me a call in the morning to 'tweak' the system, so all should be well.

At this point I can't resist another Trend rant......

Why on Earth does Trend offer a trial version and then refuse any help in getting the thing to work? Judging from this newsgroup the Trend product seems to be the software of choice and I'm at a loss to understand Trend UK's sales tactic of refusing help or support!

I've just installed the trial version of Trend Worry Free Advanced 6.0 and
I'm wondering if anyone else has tried it yet?

Being a Trial version Trend are unwilling to offer any sort of meaningful
support.

We have the following setup:
SBS2003 Standard R2
12 XP SP3 workstations
1 Windows 2003 Terminal Server
1 Windows 2003 R2 Server running an SQL Application
1 Virtual Server (on the SBS box) running two little used virtual XP's

These are the problems and issues I have are these:
1. If I turn on 'Enable Behaviour Monitoring' everything slows to a crawl to
such an extent, the workstations become unusable. Our SQL application will
not run at all.

2. Tons of spam is getting through and apart from the 'Spam' button in
outlook, I can't see any way of dealing with it. For instance, GFI's Mail
Essentials allows you to delete e-mails listed on DNS blacklists before they
reach the user.

3. I've received a report saying that one workstation was cleaned of 58
pieces of spyware. For the life of me, I can't see a way of listing the
details and finding out what the spyware was.

4. We have a Virtual XP machine who's sole purpose in life is to send, via
FTP, a consignment manifest to our couriers. This Virtual PC is running on
Microsoft's Virtual Server which, in turn, is installed on our SBS box.
When the server group 'Enable Behaviour Monitoring' is switched on the FTP
files isn't sent although the FTP connection is successfully made. The only
clue I can get is Worry Free reports spyware on the server. Again I can't
find the details.

I'm sorry if this is off topic, but I'm hoping that these issues have been
found on other SBS setups and someone will have the solutions.
