Re: Restore SBS2003 Off A Windows Backup

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

You haven't responded to the replies you got in your original post
yesterday. I agree with Lanwench, don't rebuild your server at this point.

Some things to try...

(I'm assuming you don't have ISA 2000 or 2004 installed on the SBS server).

+ Any errors in the Event logs of the SBS server or the problematic
workstations?
+ Are you're workstations getting the correct info from DHCP?
+ Are all services running on the SBS server?
+ Check Internet Explorer options on the workstations to make sure they
aren't set to 'use a proxy'.
+ Make sure your router-modem isn't blocking any outbound requests.
+ Make sure any third party firewalls (like firewalls installs by Trend
Micro) on the workstations are not blocking Internet access.
+ Re-run CEICW on the SBS server, make sure it completes successfully, then
reboot a problematic workstation and see if it can then access the Internet.

+ Post the results of an ipconfig /all for the server and for a
problematic workstation.

I would like restore SBS 2003 off a backup from over a week ago as there
has
been problems over the past few days with the internet not working on the
clients. The server is partitioned with a C and D Drive. D Drive contains
the
data files and the exchange data. The backup I have for last week had
everything working fine before things went wrong (both c and d drive
backed
up successfully).

I am thinking of backing up the current server (both c and d drives) and
then disconnecting the hard disk and then replacing this with a new hard
disk
and restoring the c drive from last week and the d drive from todays
backup.
I am just wondering if this will work ok as the exchange data is sitting
on
the D drive and so is all the users files.

I have the external hard disk with both backups on it. Can someone please
let me know the best way to restore this. I am happy to give it a go to
see
if this will work or not. If it doesnt I just reconnect the current hard
drive and go with that and try and work out what went wrong over the past
week. Im sure there is some instructions out there on how to restore
SBS2003
off a backup.

Any help would be great.

Thanks
