Re: Third NIC

Try the WAP on the switch that the SBS internal (lan) nic is connected to.

This all started when I made an attempt to add a wireless. I couldn't figure
out how to put the WAP on the SBS so I am trying to put a web service up.
Seems like they should both be somewhat the same.

As I understand it, the SBS really supports just the one subnet. Given
that, I found some information that a second (third) nic card would allow a
second subnet to exist.

I tried to hook up the wireless to the third card with no luck.

I also set up IAS on firs the card address then the IP of the NAT in the
wireless without any result.

I figure there has to be some way to add a WAP but so far no matter how I
ask the question, it seems like the same answer.

Yet somehow your answer is different. You say you actually have set up a
subnet so now I am curious.

Did you create two Class B subnets or did you break up the Class C subnet
when you put in your subnet?

Again it goes back to the intent.
If you're trying to find a way for us to sign off on a 3 nic config to host a public facing website, it won't happen. Doesn't matter if there are 5 nics.

If all 5 nics are physically in your SBS server you might as well only have one.

As Charlie pointed out, subnetting an sbs network to set up a testbed etc it fine, but not provide a host for a website.

May I ask the quesiton in a different way then. Given that there are now
three NIC's in my DC, which of the following two subnet combinations would be
more effective?

Split the 192.168.16.xx so that one card is responsible for the subnet,

Or add a second subnet at 192.168.x.x with the one NIC at the standard
192.168.16.x and a second at 192.168.1.x? (or whatever subnets are chosen
10.0.0.0 or 172.0.0.0 and so on)?

Would it be feasible to setup the WAP in this manner as well?

WAP with NAT at 192.168.1.1?

I'm just not sure how to configure the subnet actually. I'll figure ways to
minimize the risk... an aspx page with a forms login that authenticates based
on a password with an IP, username and such... channel it through LDAP into
the primary DC. And yes, I expect it could get very slow.
