Re: SBS 2008 premium installed in a blade server environment?

Cris,
Thank you for the reply, upgrading RAM is a priority. User sharefolders,
exchange database, ISA logs are not located on the system partition. Not
sure what data files you are referring to. Seems the biggest and baddest
diskspace hog by a fair margin on the system partition is symantec endpoint
protection.
From what I have gathered thus far, there is no apparent cost benefit for asmall setup of reduced wiring and cooling requirements, to make the
transition to a blade enclosure. Would I be able to assume, clustering
aside, that adding another web server or application server is a more
straightforward process in a blade vs rack environment?
Regards,
Robin

A blade server attaches to some backend storage piece, so it's not quiet as easy as it sounds.
Each blade does infact act as separate server, so from that standpoint you'll accomplish what you want
You may find that a small rack and using rack mounted servers are a better option for your needs.
But it would appear that the biggest issue you have with the current enviromnent is the lack of physical memory.
If you up your memory to 4GB from the 1GB, you'll see amazing results.
Have you moved all the data files, users share folders, exchange databases, etc. off to another partition?
That would probably free a lot of space on that 20GB partition

Thank you for the replies. We are currently running SBS 2003 sp2 on a box
with 1gb of ram, and a system partition size of 20gb on a raid 5 setup, in a
25 user environment, with exchange, sql 2000, isa 2004, and endpoint
protection. We severely constrained by system stability, and are unable to
implement wss 3.0.
Your suggestion is interesting, but you have lost me at the Hyper-V part,
and its benefits. From what I understand of the blade setup, adding server
resources is as simple as popping a new blade in, which we will require when
we implement a backend erp solution later this year.
