I'm assuming you've already tried "Last Know Good Configuration" from the F8
boot menu?
If you're not going to call MS, you may be left with doing a repair of the
Windows 2003 installation.

Hi Merv,
I'm afraid to say that no, i do not have a recent system state backup but
a
old one... may be 4-5 months old. The recent backup never occured as the
server was expected to relocate to a new location and until now that never
happened so the backup schedule & system is in the new location.
Can I do some thing with the old system state backup ?
Thanks.

Thanks Cris,
The only problem is it will cost and I'm not sure whether they can
resolve
the issue.
Any other suggestion ?

Hi there,
Need some guidance very badly.
Our SBS 2003 R2 SP2 ust will not boot after a scheduled scan by NAV
at
4:30AM with an error message "...press ok to reboot in "directory
services
repair mode..." etc. And when done so after F8, cannot boot in any
of
the
following conditions....
1. SafeMode :: comes back to ..." press ok to reboot in
"DSRM.."etc"...
2. SafeMode Network :: same as above
3. SafeMode command prompt :: same as above
4. Drectory Services Repair Mode :: runs, shows, Windows starting
in
SafeMode and checks and OK's drive system and then the screen goes
blank with
HDD light fluctuating and on showing activity for 10--12 minutes and
then
gradually the actvity stops but occasionally HDD LED blinks without
continuous blinking or activity. The same continues for 3-4 hrs
without
anything on the screen. Sign of system hanging. The sytem cannot be
reset
using "Ctl+Atl+Del" or no other ways except reset by reset switch.
The
"ethernet connection" was removed but still the same.
One thing, the SBS system uses RAID 1 and while booting the screen
shows the
HDD are active and in "normal state" before entering windows booting
system.
The SBS system uses Sharpoint services and also the inbuilt MS
Exchange
system.
The NAV is installed by another server and the SBS Server is a
client
of the
NAV Server from another server in the network.
I have found the MS Support as follows..
Article ID: 258062 - Last Review: February 22, 2008 - Revision: 13.2
"Directory Services cannot start" error message when you start your
Windows-based or SBS-based domain controller

This article was previously published under Q258062.....
at the link...
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/258062/en-us?spid=3208&sid=global
but my problem is I cannot followup the "to solve the problem .."
section as
I cannot boot using "directory services repair mode"
Is there any other way round ?
I have two more options that Imay try...
1. Remove one of the RAID HDD and reboot to see what happens
2. Use the SBS CD to boot normally and go for "repair" by choosing
"R"
Any other suggestions please.
Thanks in advance
