Firewalls do not affect exploits which allow infection through 'common
traffic' methods, nor such things as USB sticks. Your 'edge device' provides
no protection to LAN devices.
Actually, firewall can help - if you have a HTTP Proxy and YOU set the
rules to remove content types, and if the firewall has a AV/Signature
filter...
As for USB, we disable them on every computer, same for CD/DVD drives.
