Re: Closing Port 25 for Internal Clients

I admit it is an uphill battle.

I have though had a degree of success on one basic item:
'See how your system says "updates are available". That means I (not MS, not you, and not your best mate) have approved updates to be applied to your system, I would really like you, when convenient, to allow those updates to apply.' (YEP, I pretty well use 'download and prompt for install' across the board)

Reluctant or recalcitrant users get sick of me calling them, after checking their WSUS, and reminding them 'That yellow box thing has been popping up every few hours for the past 10 days, are you going to listen to me or not?'.

Firewalls do not affect exploits which allow infection through 'common traffic' methods, nor such things as USB sticks. Your 'edge device' provides no protection to LAN devices.

User education is as important as technical measures in countering such
attacks.

And all of us have learned that users will never be educated, that they
will continue to put their personal desires above the company/network
security, and that they are happy remaining ignorant if not outright
stupid.

With the price of firewalls being so cheap today, there is no excuse for
allowing the content into a network that permits these exploits.
