While I cannot speak for anyone else, I can tell you why I ask questions of folks who post here. It is to gain information and hopefully an insight to the reasons why the question is asked. I don't know how many groups you participate in, or how many threads you have read, or answered, but I have read hundreds of thousands over a 12 year span and answered a few. From this I have gleaned an insight that not all questions are perfectly constructed, and not all questions are well thought out and not all questions should be answered in the straight forward manner you suggest.

So the question is: "How do I......" with no explanation. If the question is "How do I step off the roof of a 20 story building", I would not expect the answer to be "just jump". Rather, "What are the conditions that make you think you should do that" is more appropriate. If the building is on fire and it is either jump or die, then the question was silly in the first place. If the question is a research project, then I should like to know if there is a 19.5 story building within reach and if there is any reason, other than an academic curiosity behind the question.

I think you are well within your rights to ask the question that is your stated reason for adding to this thread. Your tone and apparent demeanor are not conducive to easy interaction, which will make it hard to have a constructive conversation. That is not to say that there is not room here for folks that are not the Mary Poppins of the world, but over the years we have found that there is very little of a constructive nature contributed by such. Even the name you have chosen suggests a hostile tone.

I hope you continue to read and absorb any information you find useful here, and contribute as you see fit. It is (apparently, I have no idea how it would be done) very difficult to be banned from this group, but is is not so difficult to be ignored, which is essentially the same thing.

This is the second or third most active news group in the Microsoft stable, and can often be the most active. There are a lot of very smart people here, some of which are very experienced SBS users/consultants, some of which are trying to expand their knowledge of a fairly complicated subject. You seem to be both smart and knowledgeable and I encourage you to participate as your expertise allows, but in a constructive, non challenging way.

No, it does not. While I'll admit there are some very good reasons it
should be. There are also times when centrally located secure data, no
matter what state it may be in, is a very bad thing. Check with your
local DoD security team on that.

PST files shouldn't be in use at all on your network if you have
Exchange,
and if your users put anything in a local folder it isn't backed up.

In a perfect world, you are 100% correct. But who lives or works in a
perfect world. Users will do what ever they can. Use of PST files is one
of those things. And by the way, size limits on mailboxes are there for
a reason. Even Bill Gates had a size limited mailbox when he was running
Microsoft. Just like the other employees did. He used PST files.

That may be true in a miniscule percentage of networks, but I don't
find any
sound arguments against folder redirection here.

My intent was not post what you may or may not consider "sound
arguments". It is painfully obvious that you would not consider any
argument or statement against redirection sound.
The point, was to discover just why a request for simple information,
became such a rallying cry against what the questioner intended to do.

I can assure you, I would never berate you for what you do on your
domain. What you do there is your choice, policy, conviction or given
marching orders from someone of higher authority than yourself.
Nor would I completely disagree with the points you have made here.
Every Administrator I have ever worked with, has made excellent points
to back his or her positions. And you have done so very well.

Again, the simple point of all this was to inquire why Stu had to
endure the flood of information that he did not ask for. His original
post wanted to know "How do I make it stop?" and "Where is this coming
from?"
Simple questions that required short and simple answers.
Had he asked for opinions, I would not have typed a single word and
probably would not have found the thread at all. Google may have missed
this board when I did my search.

If the moderator wishes to expel me from this group, I have had my say
and wish to be a burden no longer.

I thank you all for the space to vent, as it were.
