Re: GPMC GPO Editor edit command always opens Local Computer Polic

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Is this right: you are logged in locally to the SBS, and you're opening Group Policy Management. You see the domain and all the policies as you'd expect. But then when you r-click one -> Edit, it opens a window called Group Policy Object Editor with Local Computer Policy at the top?

The first thing I would do is to go to CP Add/Remove. Select "Microsoft Group Policy Management Console with SP1" and click Change. Run the wizard to reinstall the GPMC.

If that doesn't work, a possible workaround would be to click Start -> Run -> MMC. File -> Add/remove snap-in. Add Group Policy Object Editor and instead of accepting the default of Local Computer, click Browse and select the policy you want to edit. Do you get the expected result of a window containing the policy you selected for editing?

Hi Larry, thank you for your reply.

There are no error messages that open along with the new Group Policy Object
Editor window, or any at all.

I do have a few red x errors in my application logs, but they are for VSS,
Exchange, and Microsoft Fax, I don't believe they are relevant after reading
them.

No errors in my security log, a terminal server printer driver error in my
system log, no errors in directory service log, no errors in dns log, and no
errors in frs logs.

First to your issue: Besides having the wrong policies open in the editor,
do you have any further messages or entries in the event logs?

Additionally, you should probably not try to edit the existing policies.
They are well thought out and there for a reason. Better to create new
ones, even if the reason is to change the behavior of the supplied ones.
This way, you don't get messed up trying to change the base policies back
and forth and lose track of what they were in the first place.
