Re: Point and Print Problems with SBS 2003 and Vista

yes, SBS 2003 SP2.

This is at a branch office, the print server is win2003R2, which is also DC, GC, fileserver, etc.

All PCs are Vista Business SP1.

The users are seperated into OUs by site..

Forest->Domains
-Domain.local
--MyBusiness
---Users
----Site1
----Site2
----Site3

The only GPO applied at the Users/Site directory is for folder redirection. Otherwise it's pretty much the standard VSG EC GPO recommended for Vista security, which is applied at the Users level.

The "point and print" and deployed printer GPO is applied at the Forest->Sites->Site2.

We have users that travel between all the sites, so I was hoping by applying the GPO at the site level, the users would pick up which ever printers are at the local site.

There are around 60 users all up. Around 20 users that work at or visit Site2.

The Physical printers are a Konica Minolta C203, and Oce TDS300.

The problem only occurs on the C203 - the TDS300 is an A0 plan printer.

Hi Brad:

Is Small Business Server involved here? Which version? What OS on the print server? What OS on the clients? What type of physical printer? Local printing is involved or remote or both?

How many users/computers? Are the users and computers that don't behave in the same OU as the ones that do.

Can't say I have ever seen this issue raised in the Small Business Server Arena before now.

Hi Everyone,

I have a few issues with Point and Print restrictions.

I have a 'SITE' GPO with Point and Print restrictions set to:
"""
Users can only point and print to these servers:
printserver.domain.local

When installing drivers for a new connection:
Do not show warning or elevation prompt

When updating drivers for an existing connection:
Do not show warning or elevation prompt
"""

The same GPO is used to deploy 2 printers to all users at that site- I have also deployed to all computers incase that made a difference.

Issue 1
--------
On most of the PCs the printer connections and drivers are installed correctly.

On some of the PCs the printer shows up, but does not install the driver. I have to go to those PCs and manually install the drivers.

I have checked rsop on those PCs and the point and print settings are correct.

Issue 2
-------
Around 5 users seem to lose their default printer every few days. Their printers are still installed and working correctly - they just don't have one set to default.

This causes issues in some applications when trying to print.

Issue 3
-------
2 of the users that lose their default printers have their default paper size reset to 8 1/2 x 11 instead of A4 - This happens multiple times a day and is the most annoying out of all the issues.

Someone has to physically go the printer and delete the job, then the user needs to reprint.
