Still - there is a way to recover, even if the deleted item retention is thus far above our understanding ;-).
Your backup - Exchange provides the recovery storage group method. What about your backup?

If you leave the box checked to delete the mailbox, shouldn't the mailbox go away, never to be seen again (you told the server to delete it)?
If you uncheck it, it should be in the disconnected mailbox group, correct?
-- The whole point of having the retention period is for this senario, maybe a worker comes back after being fired etc etc, we are all human and do make mistakes, one that has shown me not to trust MS lol.
