Re: RAID on HP ProLiant ML110 Generation 5 Server

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Thanks to Jim and Merv for taking time to explain. HP has a new driver which
was extracted on a USB Thumbdrive and then installed. So far installation
going on fine. Shall revert back if facing any problem.

You install your firewall router in front of the server. I use
Sonicwalls. Others like Watchguard or Calyptix. I suspect anything
less then a real firewall is asking for trouble. You do not get a real
firewall for $100.

You can use opendns.com to ban access to some web site types.

I thought generally Server 2008 was pretty up to date for raid stuff.
I installed a Server 2003 this weekend. I had to press F6 and load two
drivers to get the raid to work on an Intel server. It would not work
with just one or the other but required both. Often Dell and HP are
rebranded Intel stuff. There may be a chance that you need to do the
same. They are using the same words on their web site that Intel uses
so I suspect I may be correct. I had to load the embedded raid driver
and the SAS controller driver on my server. You may want to install
the 4 listed for server 2008 X64. I am not sure that Server 2008 uses
F6 anymore but I suspect you need to get all the drivers downloaded
and ready to use. You should be able to place them all once expanded
in to their own folders on a usb thumbdrive.

For general SBS questions Charlie and Eriq's books are great primers.

I am installing SBS 2008 on HP ProLiant ML110 Generation 5 Server but
after
following the manufacturer's instruction for RAID installation, the hard
drive is not listed. Can any one guide as to how to go about installing
the
new driver downloaded from their website as HP site is silent on the
installation procedure for SBS 2008?

This server series comes with only one LAN port. Can someone guide as how
to
secure my internet on this server and prevent access to a few sites by the
users?

Thanking you in anticipation.
