I re-did the DHCP and also made the machiwith dual nics and took out the
hardware firewall for now. DHCP works, re-ran all wizards. Networking
works fine from clients and server.

Still unable to connect with PPTP VPN. i disabled one of the three wan
miniports a nd i am now going to see what happens in safe mode - if i am
able to get rid of them.

What else could i do here? I will try the KB you sent over to me after
the safe mode attempt.
Is there a way to reinstall RRAS?

I am at a total loss. Would microsoft be able to help? What number for
support can i try for SBS 2003? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I doubt Windows 2003 SP2 would be a fix and I wouldn't install it on a
problematic server.

Can you boot into Safe Mode (without Networking) and remove the
Miniports?

I'll mention this KB article, but I have no experience with it:

You cannot start the Routing and Remote Access service on a Windows 2000
Server-based computer or on a Windows Server 2003-based computer
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;840686

I suppose you could be having problem with the IAS database mentioned in
the article.

I did disables RRAS and re-run CEICW and RAW again.
I did run the scan with sbs 2003 BPA and nothing came up relating to
this.

I can change the DHCP for the network off the sonicwall and to SBS.

I have SBS SP1 installed. I have not installed Windows server SP2 on my
machines. Would you recommend doing that?

I also have had multiple nics in the machine at different times. That
is how this all started. My wan miniport PPTPs were missing. I changed
NICs, i now have three different wan miniport PPTP adapters in device
manager (show hidden devices). When trying to remove them, the OS does
not allow it - say they might be required for bootup.

SBS likes it better if it can handle DHCP for the network.

Can you disable RRAS in it's console, then re-run CEICW to select your
services again? Then run the Remote Access Wizard again.

Have you installed, updated and run a scan with the SBS 2003 BPA to
see if it can find any problems?

Still no luck. I have the DHCP being provided by the sonicwall. The
RRAS PPTP is setup to use DHCP as well. I am thinking of just adding
a group of addresses instead of DHCP. Any thoguhts?

This was all working for years - just stopped recently. Not sure what
happened.
How would i uninstall and reinstall the entire RRAS? As a windows
component? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Not sure what else
to try here.

Thank you
-David

I got some advice last week - and the lockup was definitely caused
by VPN connections. I did what was suggested and ran the internet
connection and remote access wizards. I was able to connect to the
VPN, and once again, on connecting, the server locked up - nothing
in the log files.

Any ideas?
