Re: Sending pop3/imap email

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

And this is what the app log shows when I do not use authentication:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSExchangeTransport
Event Category: SMTP Protocol
Event ID: 7010
Date: 3/2/2009
Time: 10:28:28 AM
User: N/A
Computer: SERVER
Description:
This is an SMTP protocol log for virtual server ID 1, connection #117. The
client at "74.95.124.81" sent a "rcpt" command, and the SMTP server responded
with "550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for me@xxxxxxx ". The full command sent was
"rcpt TO: <me@xxxxxxx>". This will probably cause the connection to fail.

So two questions come to mind.
1. Why are users using POP3 at all? Much better options are OWA or Outlook over HTTP
2. Are these PDA's Windows Mobile devices?

If the client (Outlook Express) is set for smtp authentication then they just
keep getting prompted for password. If authentication is not checked then:
The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by
the server. The rejected e-mail address was 'xxx@xxxxxxx'. Subject 'test',
Account: 'mail.xxx.net (1)', Server: 'mail.xxx.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server
Response: '550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for xxx@xxxxxxx', Port: 25, Secure(SSL):
No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
This address is not blocked, in fact is on their spam filter's whitelist. I
have tried disabling the spam filter, no luck.
I will enable logging and see if anything shows up.
