Hi!
I am trying to log on with a domain User account that is also member
of the Mobile Users Security Group. When logging in, there seems to
be problems with the "Copy" and "Paste" functionality through the RWW
connection.
The user connects to the server's address and then connects to a
locally connected LAN-computer, from which it needs to be able to
access files that are stored on the server.
When I access the computer in question, I initially got the error
message "Error on page" in Windows Vista Business Internet Explorer
7. When running the IE as Administrator, this issue disappeared, but
despite the checkbox "Enable files and folders to be transferred
between the remote computer and this computer" being enabled, it
doesn't work.
When selecting a file on the remote computer, right clicking it and
choosing "Copy", I intended to go to my own computer and open a local
folder and there be able to press "Paste". The "Paste"-option does
not seem to work. When trying to "Paste" on the remote computer, it
works perfectly, but when trying to do it on the computer from which
I connect there is less luck.
I have tried to add the user account, with which I am connecting to
the RWW, to the "Domain Power Users" Security Group, but the
functionality is the same.
Does anyone have any idea on how to solve this? The issue is that I
want to set up an EASY way for external customers to be able to
access a file area. The file area should be both a place where they
should be able to reach files that our engineers have produced, as
well as being able to publish their own material on to the area.
Is the RWW solution presented above the right way to go? If not, is
there
any alternative ways to do it? I have tried to think about the VPN
way, but since there are external customers that run TS clients only,
they have very restricted possibilities to at all configure any VPN
connections. I don't know about Connection Manager but is that really
the right way to face the problem?
Any input is very much appreciated!
RWW is definitely not the way to go; nor is VPN. Your customers shouldn't be
logging into your domain. I'd recommend FTP services for this (and not
runnning on the SBS box). You could set up another box running FileZilla in
a DMZ and block all DMZ-->LAN communication - or use your public webhosting
company for FTP services. You'll want to make sure each customer has its own
login & secured folder so they can't see other customers' data.
