Larry,
Thanks, I really appreciate the help I get here so it is only fair that
those who need help acknowledge the help of those giving it. Likewise I was
very grateful to Kris for putting up her script on her blog as it saved me
the time and bother of writing one myself, so I left a comment of thanks on
the blog post I provided the link to in one of my replies here (
http://krisdev.blogspot.com/2005/09/search-your-domain-for-particular-smtp.html ).
I am a one man band running a small IT Support business and can't afford the
charges MS Support would make for answers like this so I really appreciate
the help folks give for free in these forums.
I also know from getting help here that often those asking the questions
don't always post back whether the suggested fix works or how they ultimately
resolved the issue themselves. Because people give freely here I think those
obtaining the free assistance should put back what they can for others who
may be following the threads so that any effort expended getting to the
result is available for all to use.
So a big thanks to all who reply to my plees for help.

thanks the source of the script as well.
Good Job!

Cliff,
I found a script by a lady called Kris Waters from Norfolk, Virginia that
worked a treat and located the offending email address attached to a
Public
Folder. I have renamed that and now all is well in the world!
I found the script on Kris' blog at:

Thanks to you and Kris for helping me resolve this issue.

ADUC searches for objects and chances are the address you are trying to

is not an object, but just an address associated with another object that
is
*not* named steve2. ADUC doesn't do that type of search.
If you do a quick google search though, you will find several resources
for
using VBScript, Perl, Powershell, etc to search for addresses in Active
Directory. Specifically, each user object in AD has a property called
proxyAddress. Use that in your search criteria and pick a script using a
language you can support in your environment. Once you've identified
which
object has the address you are trying to add, you can choose if it should
stay with the old user/public folder or be removed and then added to the
new
one.

Hi,
I have a weird situation going on with MS Exchange on an SBS 2003 box.
I
have a user who currently has a mailbox as steve@xxxxxxxxxxx and he
wants
to
additionally have a second email steve2@xxxxxxxxxxx No problem I
think,
just
add an additional smtp mail address to his user in the "Users" part of
the
Management console.
When I try and add the new address it says there is already an object
"steve2"??
There shouldn't be as we do not have any other Steve's than the one in
question and when I search the Active Directory Users And Computers
(ADUAC),
it returns no results for steve2??
Is there a better way than using the standard search tool that is built
into
ADUAC or can anyone explain what I am missing or where else to look?
