Re: Distribution Group

I forgot to ask one question. Do you host your own exchange server or are
you using a POP3 connection. Reason I ask is that IMF will only filter the
SMTP connector and not the POP3 connector.

My SCL settings are

Gateway blocking Configuration = 6
Store Junk email Configuration = 1

I guess I can change the junk email to 6. The spam comes in both our
inbox and junk mail. I have the junk mail setting on high at the
Outlook Client level.

I was using a trial copy of the GFI Mail Essentials but am not using
anything at the moment for realtime block list. Actually the GFI must
have been working really well because it seems like shortly after it
expired we started receiving all of these spam emails.

I worry about using 3rd party software with my SBS box. :-/

How do the RBL's you use work exactly? I know with the GFI software I
could whitelist or blacklist senders. Is it software you install or
just a site that you send sam mail to?

This is so annoying. A few a day I can handle. But this is hundreds.
And don't be out for more than a day without checking your email
because then it could be thousands! Ugh.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Linda,
What are your SCL settings for IMF? Do you use RBL's along with IMF? I'm
going to post my SCL ratings as well as the RBL's I use. My SPAM is pretty
much under control. Try these settings for a few days and see if you see
any
changes for the better.

Hi AintSoBad,

We have a Contact Form that people fill out and when they click submit
it automatically goes to a specified email address (the email is NOT
visible on the website).

We are using only the Intelligent Email Filtering that came with
Exchange. So yes to your 3rd question. We are using Exchange 2003
w/SP2 and IMF is installed.

It may just be a coincidence because most of my users are getting some
sort of spam (not just the ones in the distribution groups I set up).
We are getting emails generated by ourselves to ourselves, System
Administrator DNRs sent to foreign destinations like Russia or
something similar, etc. It's been going on for a few weeks now and it
is driving me crazy.

Maybe our domain is just being spammed.

Thanks for your reply.

Linda

Hi All,

I set up a Distribution Group for Website Inquiries and added the
names of the users who should be receiving these requests. I did this
in the Active Directory. It is configured as Universal.

It is working just like I wanted it to. All the users who need to
receive the requests ARE receiving them.

The problem I am having, however, is since I created this group all
the users in the group have been inundated with spam email. Hundreds
of emails from the System Administrator sent to the Distribution
Group.

Is there any way I can stop these emails? Should I have done this a
different way. Should I hide this from the Exchange Address lists?

The reason I created the group was because several users were required
to receive the emails. I couldn't set up the same alias email to all
the users, so I set up a group instead and added each user as a
member.

If anyone knows how I can do this better, or to get rid of the spam
emails, please let me know. I am drowning in spam emails....

Thank You!

Server: SBS 2003
