What is the purpose of a separate workgroup when you have a domain?

i have a sbs 2003 server
i got computers that connected to the domain
and a workgroup
the workgroup used to be XP
now i upgraded it to VISTA ULTIMATE
after the upgrade one computer keep sending authentication request to
the DC
and give a lot of 529 error id in event viewer

what can cause this ?
the workgroup recieve DHCP services from the server
there is no folder sharing with the server
no scheduled tasks
no saved netwrok passwords on vista
nothing that should cause this
the vista pc is formated and got anti virus on it
so it's not a virus
