I didn't think that $30/yr for a cert was a big deal, and it made it easier
to use w/ my windows mobile device. I had a self-signed SBS2003 environment
before and was looking forward to not having to deal with the irritations
anymore.

Just got off the phone w/ GoDaddy tech support. I'm trying to figure out why
my remote connectivity has stopped working again out of the blue.

They confirmed that my current external IP address does not match the
address tied to my SSL certificate.

I had no idea that the IP address was part of the SSL cert (and not just the
domain name.) I mistakenly thought that the Dynamic DNS updating feature in
SBS2008 would magically make it so I did not have to purchase a static IP
address from my ISP ComCast.

Turns out I have three options.

1. Stop using my remote connectivity (yeah, right.)
2. Have the GoDaddy SSL Cert re-issued each time my IP address changes
(great, I love playing russian roulette when I'm traveling).
3. Purchase a static IP address from ComCast (and deal w/ the recurring
monthly costs forever.)

I guess this is a small issue for larger organizations, but I'm an
individual consultant using my SBS2008 install for continuing education and
development work. And it feels like I'm being nickeled and dimmed every step
of the way.
