Hi LW and thanks again for the input. I really don't think it is an agent
issue here. The folder in question is on the D drive of that server and the
backups seem to do just fine until it get's about half way through that
directory. I think my suspicions are correct and if you read Larry's thread
he is kind of leaning the same way. I think it is a timeout issue that force
the network connection to break and fail the backup. I was just curious as
to if NT Bakup will do the same.

LW,

as well as other agents for
Exchange and SQL. I just want some confrimation that it is the 60GB
and thousands of .tif scanned images files folder that causes the job
to disconnect from the network device and fail the backup operation.
Not to put too fine a point on it, hell yeah. That's going to suck.
It is either that or I need to update the host adpater SCSI driver
which I want and need to do anyways. Which leads me to another mind
boggling situation. This is the first time I've ever had problems
finding a driver for a device. Certainly my tape device is a bit out
of date. not that bad though as it is only about 4-5 years new to me.
Anyways it is a ADIC (taken over by Quantum) Fastor2, 8 tape
160/320GB library. I have this connected directly to my SBS 2003
server box. It uses a Ultra2 SCSI host adpater (model# AIC-7890-AIC
7891 Ultra2 SCSI) to connect to an Adaptec SCSI Card 29160 Ultra 160
SCSI card on my SBS server. Can't find one anywhere. I've been to
Adpatec homepage as well as Quantum and have google everything and
anything related to no avail.
I really don't know, sorry :-(

I want to use NT Backup. When I run the Backup wizard it does not
detect my tape device. I use a ADIC Fastor2 8 tape library with a
Quantum 160/320 tape drive. This has been working fine over the
years with CA Brightstor Arcserve Backup v11.1.
I'm trying to troubleshoot a backup issue where when backing up a
60GB folder on another W2K3 server it looses the network connection
and the job fails at that point. I think it is because the 60GB
directory has grown over the years and that it contains thousands
of .tif scanned image files. So I want to see how NT Backup handles
this and now have a need to use it. Any special I need to do to get
NT Backup to detect and recognize my
tape device?
Does it still work fine with Arcserve? I know BE uses its own
drivers, but I don't think CA does.
Go to device manager and make sure it shows up there. Also open
Removable Storage Manager (open mmc and add this in). Don't use the
NTBackup wizard - use the classic settings.
Note that backups across a network, without a remote agent, will
usually suck. I'd stick with a third party backup program & get the
remote agent installed on the other server to "feed" it.
