Ah, OK. I think this needs to be addressed at some point. They shouldn't
have two SBS boxes, really. They should have a single domain with an
additional site.

The main application need to be run from the main office by
the remote users connecting by VPN.

What about Terminal Services? Running an application across a VPN connection
sounds like a recipe for disaster.

The VPN is established through
the SonicWALL appliance.

OK.

How else would I make the VPN connection to
the folder on the other server in order to run the app?

Well, you could've been using VPN client software.

To install
the app I used this Z\\192.168.2.254\abc in order to access the
folder for the application and launch it and run it. This was all
working as of Tuesday and the mapped drive disapeared. All other pc's
at the location can \\192.168.2.254 in My Computer and their shortcut
to the application works.

Event logs on the workstation give you any clues?

What happens if you don't use the IP address (on any of the workstations)?
You could create another zone in your SBS DNS server (theirdomain.local) and
add their server as a host in there, with its LAN IP. Then add
theirdomain.local to your DNS suffix search list in DHCP.

Thank You for your post.
This is hardware to hardware. Both SonicWALLS

It is mapped to the ip of the remote server and domain.

OK. Don't map drives on a server. Your workstation users should be
the only ones mapping drives at all.

The local
office runs and application that is at the remote site.

What's the reason you have an application server in your remote
office, just out of curiosity?

Why am I not able to remove the drive that is listed when I try and
map the drive.
Example I try to delete Z:\\192.168.2.254\abc but it is not listed.
When I try to map a drive the letter Z is taken and mapped to
Z:\\192.168.2.254\abc which is the ip of the remote server

Don't use IP addresses.

Do you have a DC in the remote office? I would recommend it, if
you've got a server there anyway. It should be a GC, DNS & WINS
server as well. You'd set it up in its own site/subnet in AD Sites &
Services.

If you don't have a DC in the remote office, the server &
workstations therein should have the SBS server's LAN IP for DNS &
use the same primary DNS suffix (e.g., yourcompany.local). No public
IPs.

Hi,
The Server is SBS 2K3, workstation is Windows XP. I have a
SonicWALL Appliance before the server. There is a VPN established
and connected with a remote office.

OK - is this a hardware-based VPN from the router/firewall in the
remote office to your Sonicwall? Not from VPN client software?

From the server when I disconnect the mapped
drive and map and connect it

Connect & map to what? Do you mean you're on the SBS box, trying to
map a drive to something in the remote office? If so, why?

will ask for user and pw. I enter and
connect. From the workstation

Where is this workstation - in the remote office?

that had the drive mapped and was able
to connect on Tuesday, now cannot connect using the user and pw
that works from the server. When I try to disconnect the mapped
drive \\xxx.xxx.x.xxx\xxxx ip of vpn computer and domain it does
not appear in the list. When I try to map it, it shows up in the
list and Z:\\xxx.xxx.x.xxx\hkwg but will not let me connect using
the user name and pw that works on the server. Other users can
connect and see folders as well as the servers. No firewall is
turned on on the pc or server. Thanks

Please provide more detailed info of how you're set up & you're
doing.
