I have tried twice now to install the AVG 8 administrator, and it breaks
internet access for everyone. After installing, no one, even the local
SBS
server can go out to the internet. Then, when I uninstall it, internet
access is restored. Wehn I looked on AVG's website, they say it is not
supported on an ISA server. So I believe my only option if upgrading to
version 8 (version 7 worked without issues) is to run it on a different
server.
The server is running out of space and processing power. It is a 2.8
pentium 4 with 2.5 Gb on RAM, total hard drive space is 160 Gb broken into
C
- 10 Gb D -75 Gb and E - 75 Gb.
With three instances of MSDE running, I am constantly getting allocated
memory alerts. So I was going to try and run the Update Services,
SharePoint, and ISA Server in the instance of SQL which is provided. This
would only have one instance of SQL running and free up those resources.
Sorry if I am jumping around here. I just want to get as much resources
as
possible with available technology. They don't want to spend any money
right
now, so I thought this would be an available option since the second
server
is already there adn under utilized.
Suggestions?

Hi Rich:
You are cutting yourself in for a *lot* of work that most have never
found
the need for. For example, I run AVG in SBS 2003 Premium with out
issues,
and there are lots of tools and techniques for freeing up drive space or
moving things to other drives.
In general, SBS is not really maxed out with 10 users, unless you have
too
little RAM or not enough drive space, both of which are more easily and
less
costly resolved than adding additional servers and moving things.
However, in general, to remove WSUS 2.0 you have to uninstall R2
technologies, then, to get back the ones you want install it again
without
WSUS.
There are cleanup routines for WSUS 2 or 3:
Cleanup works on both 2 and 3 and should be run as a scheduled task.
WSUS - Release: WSUS Driver Declining Tool:

WSUS - Release: WSUS Cleanup:

And we can help you move stuff to other drives if you would like.

I have a small SBS 2003 R2 network (10 Clients) and the resources on the
server are getting a little congested. I was wondering if anyone had
experience removing the windows update services and the associated msde
server and putting it on a 2003 member server as a stand alone WSUS
server.
I also wanted to know how easy it would be to conenct the ISA 2004 to a
an
existing SQL server rather than running a separate instance of msde.
Further I am going to run my AVG network server on this separate member
server since version 8 doesn't play nicely with an ISA server.
Any ideas or recommendations?
