Re: My Document redirection fails for all Non Admin users

Dave,
The plot thickens....
If I log into the server with my username or the admin ID, everything
appears to be working. RSOP.MSC does not show any errors.
If I run the RSOP.MSC from my desk, it has a red X on the user. I try to run
GPUPDATE /FORCE and it does not tell me that one of the policies requires
logging out. So I know there is a problem there.
If I log on to my desktop with any other user ID, everything works. DOcs
showed that they are redirected to teh server. HMMM.
If I log into Bill's computer with my ID, the redirection works. If I log on
with his ID, it does not. THe RSOP gives me an exclamation mark.
I have run GPUPDATE /FORCE on the pc's. No change. I am thinking that there
is a ghost in the system somewhere. :(

Seems like this has either got to be security or group policy. The first.
thing I'd do is to check the system and application logs on the workstation
where redirection is failing. If the failure is security related, it should
be logged. In the share you created, if the share permission is set to
"read," as it is by default, that could be the whole problem. Or, you may
have to adjust the NTFS permissions.
Failing that, on your own workstation, logged in as yourself (the account
where redirection works), go to Start -> Run -> rsop.msc. The resulting
console will tell you policies applied to that PC and your user account.
Find redirection, and note the GPO that it's applied from.
Now log in on a workstation, and using an account, where redirection fails.
Run rsop.msc and note the settings there to see what's different (if
anything). Go to Start -> Run and type gpupdate /force. Look in the system
or application logs for anything related to group policy processing errors.

I am running SBS 2003 R2 and I am having problems getting the My Documents
redirection to work on anyone other that Administrators or users with that
role.
I have created the share called USERS with the shares wizard. I even made
sure that all the permissions for the share as well as the security were
set
correctly. I used a Microsoft whitepaper that discusses moving data
folders
and how to correctly set them up.
Anyhow, if I log in to the server as the administrator or my personal
account (with admin rights) it redirects the My Documents. If a regular
user
logs on, nothing happens. I cannot get any of the users My Documents
redirected.
I looked at the Group Policy Modeling wizard and the SBS Folder
redirection
is in teh denied GPO's. The reason it was denied states EMPTY. I am not
sure
that this means anything or not.
I have been trying to get this to work for several days now with no luck.
Please provide any advice you have. I am at wits end!
If I log on as a standard user, nothing happens. Their My Documents does
not
get redirected.
