Thanks for the reply Steve,
I set up the SBS backup a while back, with the wizards, so i believe thats
done correctly. The database (I think) is the file priv1.edb in the mdbdata
folder (correct me if I am wrong) is 875mb in size, so thats not over filled.
Yes, its not even SP1 installed. I already plan on updating it to sp2 when
I can get this damn badmail folder emptied, its been working since 10 am this
morning!!
I am going to call them and quiz them on passwords, but there is no open
relay, I tried to do it from the instructions on the MS KB article, via
telnet and I could not relay. That was the only good news I had today!!
Just what are those strange smtp connectors I see in the queue? I guess
when I re-mount the store I will see more. What worries me is that I can't
see the users mailboxes.

How large are the current Exchange databases? If they are close to the 16 GB.
limit you really need to deal with that by applying Exchange SP2 soon. I'll
bet you also don't have the full SBS 2003 SP1 installed either. Run the SBS
BPA to see what issues it might flag. Is there an Exchange aware backup
being run to regularly purge the log files? Then I would recheck all
settings that relate to possible mail relaying and access permissions. Have
you checked that all user accounts have strong passwords?

Hi,
Since I recently got our main company up and running with exchange (thanks
to lots of help here) our 2nd company on another site has experienced an
exchange failure. Since I got ours up and running, naturally they
assigned
me to look into this problem (thanks alot). They are running SBS 2003 not
r2
and the original version of exchange 2003, no service packs.
It looks like a reverse ndr problem, lots of postmaster mails clogging up
the queue, and the badmail folder was/is jammed with crap. Its taking me
forever to delete all this nonsense, actually the c: drive was down to a
few
megs of free space. I am following the kb articles:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/886208 and
http://support.microsoft.com/kb\324958 trying to get the mail back online.
I just noticed that the mailbox store and public folders store is not
mounted. I mounted both of them and lots of stuff came back to the queue,
things like "internet-gahneninfo.de (smtp connector)" in fact about 20 or
so
of these before I re-dismounted the store. While the store was mounted, I
still could not see any users mailboxes, actually under the mailbox store
there was nothing at all.
I made sure we are not an open relay as from one of the KB articles.
I guess I am going to wait until the badmail folder is totally empty
before
I re-mount anything, but am I on the right road to recovery, or are there
other steps I need to take?
TIA
