Re: Remote Web Workplace Will not Allow Users to Logon

I'm wondering if configuring a LMHosts file for tyhe Vista machine will
resolve the issue:

LMHosts and Hosts files

It is a good idea to add the domain name as well. This requires two lines,
and uses extremely critical formatting. A sample would be:
192.168.100.10 DCNAME #PRE #DOM:YOUR-DOMAIN
192.168.100.10 "YOUR-DOMAIN \0x1b" #PRE

There must be exactly 20 characters, including spaces, between the quotes in
"YOUR-DOMAIN \0x1b", and the spaces need to be between the domain name
and the \0x1b. The domain name used is the NetBIOS name, not the FQDN. If
your domain name exceeds 15 characters, you must truncate it at the 15th
character, it will still work.

If you find this last step tedious, the University Of Sait Louis has a
little Java script that will create these two lines for you:

Actually, there's a new piece to this. I WAS able to log in to the client
workstation by using Username@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx and password.

So I guess we can log into the workstation's using the full username @ our
domainname.local at the login screens. I wish we didn't have to do this
however, any thoughts?

OK, here is my situation.

1. I can connect to RWW fine. I log in to the website with Domain Admin
credentials.

2. I choose connect to server desktops. I select our server from the
list,
and hit connect. An RDP session starts up, I am now at the log in screen
for
Windows SBS 2003. I type the Domain Admin credentials again, and I log
into
the server. Works fine.

3. I choose connect to client desktops. I select a PC that I know is
turned on, and a member of the domain. I click connect, an RDP session
starts up, and I am now at the Windows Vista Business login screen. I
type
the Domain Admin credentials, with or without the domain name included,
and I
recieve the "Username or Password is incorrect" error, every time.

4. If I were sitting in front of the computer physically, I can use the
exact same credentials to log in and it would work fine.

It's very strange, but I CAN connect to the PC, but I just can't log into
them. Our domain name is roughly 20 letters long (don't ask) so I
thought
maybe I was having the same situation as a poster above.

Strange right?

You should not have to use the Domain name to login through RWW. What
do
you mean you are able to connect to the Client PC's but not able to
login?
Can you login as Domain Administrator? Can you login to the server as
Domain
Administrator thru RWW? What error do you get and when? Are you
connecting
from Vista or XP WS and what SP? What OS is the WS on the NW?

Was there any progress on this thread?

I am having the identical problem of being able to connect to the
client
PC's through Remote Web Workplace, but not being able to log in to
the
PC's
with the correct credentials. I recieve the "Username or Password is
incorrect" error.

I have also tried the truncated domain name on login and so forth.
Our
domain name is over 15 characters long. Unfortunatly this is pretty
much
the
only thread I have found online that describes the exact same problem
we
are
expieriancing.

I have looked at Microsoft KB 892078, but this describes a slightly
different issue involving a password that is waiting to be reset.
These
users and passwords have are not waiting to be reset.

Any thoughts?

Connecting with https has the same results.

How do I rerun the CEICW? I don't see an option to do this in
Server
Mangement. Thanks

"Frank McCallister SBS MVP" wrote:

RWW should not require the Domain name when logging on and the
knowledge
base you quote only applies to password changes and using OWA to
workaround.
I would suggest you try https//ipaddress/remote and see if you
can
connect
that way as another workaround. Also try rerunning CEICW. Another
ck
is
if
the WS's are XP SP3 be sure that Tools Manage addons has Activex
RDP
client
enabled

When users who are members of the Remote Web Workplace Users
group
try
to
logon to RWW they get the following message:

The user name or password is incorrect. Verify that CAPS LOCK
is not
on,
and
then retype the current user name and password. If you receive
this
message
again, contact your system administrator to ensure that you
have the
correct
permissions to use the Remote Web Workplace.

The users are members of the correct groups and the passwords
are
correct.
According to the Microsoft KB, the problem is that the NetBios
name
of
the
domain is different than the full domain name. The domain name
is
longer
than
15 characters so the NetBios name is truncated. Microsoft's KB
mentions
that
this is the issue, but it doesn't say how to solve. Can anyone
help??
