I get the lazy part - I disabled sync manually because I was too lazy to put the laptops in their own OU or configure security filtering - there are only 3 or 4 of them.

Yep. But I like doing stuff via GPO. I'm lazy.

Not by computer, no. Only by user. But even that is a huge step
forward. (And, I'd argue that folder redirection for users with more
than one computer really only makes sense if all their computers are
redirected. Otherwise, you get into issues of file versioning.)

flogged it, and agreed to disagree, I suspect. Though I understand
where you're coming from. But with each iteration of Windows, on
both the server and client side, it seems to get better. And I
really like the idea of offline files with the folder redirection,
now that they've fixed folder redirection to by _by user_ in SBS
2008.

I look forward to seeing that. But do they have it by user
depending on which computer? I don't want Joe Bloggs to get offline
files on his desktop, but I might want them on his laptop.
I've managed to do all this sort of thing by fussing around with
GPOs and loopback processing, but it's been a PITA.

Now see, I love offline files. But I'm pretty careful with them

use it on my current active set of folders.

...yep, but users don't, and I've seen too many people lose GB of
data. Plus, if I change the source path on the server, I don't
want to blow up someone's offline cache. I like SecondCopy.

But haven't we flogged this particular equine before? ;-)

I came across a little program from Microsoft called Microsoft
Sync Toy. I think this might work. Although it runs manually
it gives instructions for using Scheduled Tasks in XP to auto
the synching.

You could. I prefer SecondCopy from www.centered.com. Or a batch
file with a robocopy /mir job that the user can manually run (or
that runs via scheduled task).

I dislike offline files.

Hi! I have a remote user with an XP PRO computer who connects
over a slow WAN link. Because of this slow link, I would
like to keep a copy of a critical 2003 SBS directory on his
pc and have it sync any changes during the evening hours.

I have done some internet searching and have found some
third-party programs that claim to do this. However I was
wondering if there is some "built-in" feature in XP or 2003
SBS that Microsoft has that would do this? If a third-party
program is needed, can anyone advise on which one works the
best? Any advice is appreciated!
